RE Turnaround Case Study

The project was, at the time, one of the largest on-shore wind farm project in Finland spread across 5 project sites. The market was relatively new and so environmental authorities, governments (both local and central), counterparties, experts and consultants were not very experienced with handling and approving wind projects. The project suffered from a lack of structured management, defined project roles and responsibilities, as well as long term expertise in wind approvals, large project knowledge and structured project sales. This culminated in later than expected dates for delivery, uncontrolled budgets, deteriorating local relationships, unclear roles and a failure to achieve certain environmental and planning requirements. Management was able to see that if the project continued in this way it had a very real chance of failure.

Oxford took charge of the complete development project. We put in a new management team consisting largely of our own staff, reviewed, added to, changed and coached experts, at each level built and improved the communication as well as strengthening the team feeling and re-building confidence in the process. In addition we negotiated with governments, institutions and agreed new timescales and processes for the project. Over a period of 4 months we brought the project back on track, almost to the originally planned timescale.
